Daughters of the King - St. Agnes Chapter

The Daughters of the King is a lay order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church or churches in communion with it. The Order was founded in 1885 by Margaret J. Franklin at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in New York City. Our St. Stephen’s chapter, the St. Agnes Chapter, was founded in 1963. It began with 7 women and has grown to a present membership of 40 Daughters.

DOK Members undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. By reaffirmation of the promises made at Baptism and Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.

The St. Agnes Chapter of the Daughters of the King continues to be a vital part of St. Stephen’s spiritual ministries. Members offer daily prayer for persons who request it, and the list remains confidential. During times of crisis, a prayer chain is activated. Receptions are provided, following funeral services, for any bereaved families who request it. Bereavement cards are sent following the death of any parish member and on the first anniversary of the death.

Monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month beginning at 10:00 in the Chapel with Holy Eucharist, followed by a business meeting and a program in the Pollard Library that ends at 12:00.  If you would like more information, please visit the St. Agnes web site.
