St. Stephen’s Scholarship Information
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church offers scholarships to help meet the financial needs of parishioners who are members in good standing and who are enrolled in accredited, post-secondary, degree- or certificate-granting institutions. The scholarship will be awarded through the candidate’s educational institution and not to the candidate directly.
How to Apply
Applicants must apply in writing to the Scholarship Committee of St. Stephen’s for each semester or term for which they are seeking aid.
Initial application
Applicants must submit a cover letter and initial application each academic year. The application should include the following information in a typed format on 8 ½- by 11-in paper:
Personal: applicant’s name, permanent address, telephone number, e-mail address, age, and relationship to St. Stephen’s parish; parents’ names and addresses (if the applicant is a dependent).
Family: size of family, number and age of parents’ dependent children (if applicant is a dependent), number and age of applicant’s dependent children, and number of family members currently in post-secondary educational institutions.
Financial: a statement of the applicant’s need, including the applicant’s anticipated income from all sources while in school, other aid requested and granted; total anticipated expenses for tuition, room, board, fees, books and supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous; number of working family members and their approximate income.
Academic: a letter of acceptance from the applicant’s educational institution (if the applicant is a first-year student or a transferring student) or the name, address, and phone number of the applicant’s educational institution (if the applicant is a continuing student); the applicant’s course of studies, current educational level, educational goals, and anticipated graduation date; and the applicant’s most recent academic transcript.
Reference: the name, address, and phone number of a clergy member or unrelated parishioner at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church who can attest to the applicant’s active involvement in the St. Stephen’s community.
Renewal
To renew the scholarship for additional terms during an academic year, the applicant must provide a written statement each term, stating the applicant’s academic progress, how the scholarship has been used, and the applicant’s continuing financial need.
Deadlines
August 1 – for fall semester
December 1 – for spring semester
May 1 – for summer term
Submissions
Applicants should make a photocopy of the completed application and keep it for their own records. The original copy should be placed in an envelope, and the envelope should be sealed and addressed to:
